After a memorable junior hockey career filled with resilience, big moments, and strong relationships, forward Caden Michael has officially committed to play ACHA hockey at Illinois State University!
For Michael, Illinois State immediately stood out as the perfect fit both on and off the ice. “ISU is a place I have heard so many good things about,” Michael said. “I know multiple people that have attended the school and I’ve heard nothing but positives. Also being super close to home is an awesome positive to have.”
Michael will major in Business while continuing his hockey career at the next level. As he prepares for this new chapter, he says he is most excited not only for the opportunity to continue playing the game he loves, but also for the lifelong friendships that come with it. “I look forward to being able to continue my hockey journey at ISU, but also take the next step in life and meet guys that I will talk to for the rest of my life.”
Throughout his hockey journey, Michael credits his parents and girlfriend as his biggest supporters. “They have been there for me through everything and I am so grateful for that.”
One of the most influential people in Michael’s career has been former coach Michael Rooney, who helped him through one of the toughest periods of his life following surgery. “He did so much to help me get out of a difficult place I was in post surgery, and gave me every opportunity I could’ve asked for to succeed.”
Michael’s junior career was filled with unforgettable moments, but one stands above the rest. During Game 2 of the South Division Semifinals against New Mexico, with his team trailing 1-0 in the series, Michael scored the double overtime winner to keep the season alive. “That was a really special moment and something I will never forget.”
Another memory that remains close to him was clinching the South Division championship and earning a trip to the Fraser Cup in St. Louis with a tight-knit group of teammates. “I personally went through a lot last year, and to make it to that point with probably the closest group I have ever been apart of was super special.”
As Michael heads to Illinois State, he brings determination, experience, and a deep appreciation for the people who helped him along the way. The Redbirds are gaining a player excited for both the competition and the opportunity to grow in the next stage of his life.
