Illinois State Hockey Welcomes Michael Lenhart

Illinois State Redbirds welcome Michael Lenhart to the family! Lenhart, a 6′-2″ 185 lb. goaltender is a Syracuse, NY native. He joins the Redbirds after a successful season with the Chicago Cougars in the UPSHL Premiere division.

Lenhart chose ISU because he can get a great education for his major while playing hockey at the same time. He intends to be a nursing major. His favorite coach was Coach Andrew Mercer, “It was always fun working with him, and he helped me develop for the years I was in Ottawa,” Lenhart states. Lenhart’s biggest supporter is his parents. “They have been on the journey with me every step of the way,” Lenhart states. Lenhart’s favorite hockey memory was winning the state championship when I still played in Syracuse.

“Over the past few years we’ve begun to build a strong competitive foundation for netminders, our program is really becoming Goalie University. Adding a player of Michael’s background and experience is a testament to this. Throughout our three teams, we were only looking to fill a few spots. We had over a dozen goalies at our prospect camps this year. Michael’s skill and competitive level made it easy for us to see he is a young man that will drive us toward our goals of National Championship level hockey.” – Coach Michael Hernbrott.

“Michael is great goaltender who brings the drive we are looking for inside the club. I can’t wait to continue to see him develop and help our organization continue to get better!” – Coach Chris Prewitt
