Illinois State University Hockey Welcomes Mike Sliwinski

Illinois State Redbirds welcome Mike Sliwinski to the family! Sliwinski, a 6′-2″ 185 lb. forward is a Franklin Park, IL native. He joins the Redbirds after a successful season with the Chicago Cougars of the USPHL Premier division.

Sliwinski chose ISU because he looks forward to continue playing hockey at a high level as well as meeting new people while finishing up his degree. He intends to be a biology major. His favorite coach was his father, who taught him how to play the game of hockey the right way and was the one who introduced him to the sport when he was only 3 years old. Sliwinski’s biggest supporter is his mom. “She has always been there for me and always looking to help me further and improve myself as a hockey player as well as a person,” Sliwinski states. Sliwinski’s favorite hockey memory was playing in all of his high school state playoff games leading up until the final four.

“We are super excited to have Mike join ISU. He had an extremely successful year with the Chicago Cougars and we expect him to have an instant impact on the Redbirds. His playstyle makes him extremely versatile and we are extremely excited to have him become a Redbird.” – Coach Chris Prewitt.
