Illinois State Hockey welcomes Ryan Spreyne to the Redbird Family! The Illinois native forward will be joining us for the 2025-26 season as he is finishing up his season with the Texas Brahmas in the NA3HL!
Ryan chose to go to Illinois State because, “my dad went to school here and always said he enjoyed it, and when I was able to visit campus, I thought it would be a good fit.” He intends to major in business management while at ISU. Spreyne is looking forward to meeting new people and winning hockey games.
When asked about his favorite coach, Ryan stated, “Any one of my old Chicago Jets coaches. They would always come in with a smile and would have our best interest in mind. I can attribute much of who I am today as a hockey player to what they taught me.” Spreyne credits that his biggest supporter are his parents because, “they are always a phone call away after a tough game or an unfortunate injury, calming me down and motivating me to come back better.” When asked about his biggest goal, Ryan said it was the GWG in the 16U state championship. The best hockey memory that Spreyne has had was during his first year of juniors when he competed in the Fraser Cup Tournament.
Some other fun facts about Ryan Spreyne:
If Ryan could be an animal, he would be a dog because he has two dogs, and their lives seem to be pretty relaxing. Spreyne has two siblings: a younger sister; Blake and a younger brother; Evan. His favorite food is pasta.
“Ryan is an extremely well-rounded player who has seen a lot of success at the junior level. I expect that to transition extremely well to the college game and he should have an instant impact on the group. We are excited to have him joining the birds next year and I look forward to helping him continue to grow.” – D1 Head Coach Chris Prewitt
