Illinois State Redbirds welcome Alex (AJ) Kowalczyk to the family!
Kowalczyk, a 5′-8″ 145 lb. forward is a Bloomington/Normal, IL native. He joins the Redbirds after a successful season with the Bloomington Thunder 18U team.
Kowalczyk chose ISU because “I want to play hockey on a competitive team. I also knew that I will get a good education while staying close to home.” He currently is a Business Administration major. “Chris Prewitt was my favorite coach. I played for Coach Prewitt for two years and saw my game improve a lot while playing for him. He challenged me and my teammates to be better and work hard to accomplish personal and team goals,” Kowalczyk stated. Kowalczyk’s biggest supporters are his parents who have supported him since he was young. Kowalczyk said his favorite hockey memory was, “beating Highland Park CSDHL in the state playoffs when they were ranked #2 in the state.” Alex looks forward to meeting new people, making new friends, and playing hockey as a Redbird.
“I am super excited to see AJ take the next step in his playing career. His game and compete level will transition extremely well at the college level and we are looking forward to seeing him continue to grow!” – Coach Chris Prewitt.
AJ Kowalczyk joins the list of the hometown players to continue their hockey careers as a Redbird; Brock Brandenburg (D2), Sean Meyer (D1), Brendan Donovan (D1), Andrew Meyer (D2), and Brennan Mitchell (D3).
