Illinois State Hockey Welcomes JP Teichman!

The Illinois State Redbirds welcome JP Teichman to the family!

Teichman, a 5’9″ 179 lb. forward is a Plainfield, IL native. He will join the Redbirds in the 2024-25 season after playing for the Chicago Hawks U18 team in the CSDHL division.

JP explained that he chose ISU because “It’s close to home so my parents and siblings can still watch me play and the hockey program is very nice.” He intends to major in business.

“My favorite coach is Jonathan Cannizzo because he really shaped me into who I am today on and off the ice,” Teichman stated. When asked who his biggest supporter was, JP says it is his brother. “My brother has been my biggest supporter because he’s the one that even got me into hockey.” JP stated that his biggest goal was, “the game winning goal to get us to the state championship game my U16 year.” Teichman expressed his favorite hockey memory was winning back-to-back years at the U16 and U18 levels.

JP has two siblings: Elise and Alex. Teichman expressed that he is looking forward to playing hockey at ISU. Teichman’s favorite food is sushi. When asked what animal JP would want to be, he stated, “a wolf because they are strong and smart.”

“JP is our second commitment this year from the #1 AA program in the country Chicago Hawks. He is a top six scorer, has National Championship experience. We’re excited to add JP on to what is already shaping up to be one of our strongest recruiting classes.” – Coach Michael Hernbrott.

Teichman will join former teammate Michael Ryndak and current teammate Cooper Darovic as the most recent members of the Redbird family from the Chicago Hawks program.
