Illinois State Redbirds Take Several MCH Awards for 2022-23 Season!

The Illinois State Division 1 Redbirds brought home several awards from the Midwest Collegiate Hockey League:

MCH MVP and All-League 1st Team: Tony Campise 

Campise continues to add more MCH accolades to his resume after winning Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team last season. Tony finished the season with 17 goals and 35 assists to end with 52 points on the season. Tony lead the team this season with 62 penalty minutes and points per game by averaging 1.49 points a game. Campise looks to hit some milestones next season including 100 points and 100 games like captain Trevor Hilt.

All League 2nd Team: Trevor Hilt, Mitch Oberlag, and Brendan Donovan

Our captain Trevor Hilt finishes his senior season with 28 goals and 14 assists to finish at 42 points on the year. Hilt lead the team in powerplay goals with 14, and game-winning goals with 7. Trevor also surpassed both 100 games played and 100 points in his career this season. Hilt is no doubt a future Redbirds Hall of Famer with 115 points over 4 seasons.

 

Alternate captain, Mitchell Oberlag finished the season with 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points. Oberlag finished third in points on the team only behind Trevor Hilt and Tony Campise. Oberlag did lead the team with power-play assists with 11. Mitchell looks to return next season and hit more career milestones as a Redbird.

 

Brendan Donovan had a stellar year between the pipes for the Redbirds. Donovan finish the season with 14 wins and 4 losses with a 2.55 GAA. Donovan faced 549 shots only allowing 46 goals all season. Donovan also had 2 shutouts during the season against NIU and Maryville. Brendan finished within the top 20 goaltenders in the entire ACHA at #13. Overall, Donovan improved in his second season and looks to continue the success in his third season.

 

Coach of the Year: Chris Prewitt

In his second year as head coach, Chris Prewitt wins coach of the year. Prewitt lead the Redbirds to a 27-6-2 record during the season and made it to the conference championship for the second straight season. Coach Prewitt also help lead the D1 Redbirds to reach their first Nationals appearance in program history.
