ISU Hockey Welcomes Masen Kerr!

Illinois State Hockey welcomes Masen Kerr to the Redbird Family! The Wisconsin native defensemen will be joining us for the 2025-26 season as he is finishing up his season with the Great Falls Americans in the NA3HL!

Masen chose to go to Illinois State because, “the campus looks great, and it is located near where I grew up! They also have a hockey program that I committed to be a part of, and I am very excited.” He intends to major in construction management while at ISU. Kerr is looking most forward to learning and getting his degree while playing hockey.

When asked about his favorite coach, Masen stated, “Greg Sears, he pushes all of his players to their potential and cares for all of his players.” Kerr credits that his biggest supporter is his girlfriend, Emma. When asked about his biggest goal, Masen said “when I scored the game winning goal to advance to the CSDHL championship during my U18 year.” The best hockey memory that Kerr has had was after a game where he scored 3 goals and had 3 assists, he met Chicago Blackhawks legend Eddie Olczyk and talked to him. Later that night, Olczyk would mention their interaction with Masen and his performance during the game while broadcasting a game in Chicago.

Some other fun facts about Masen Kerr:

If Masen could be an animal, he would be a bear because they are big and strong. Kerr has two siblings: an older sister; Marin and an older brother; Michael. Masen’s favorite food is pizza and specifically wood fired pizza.

“We have watched Masen hone and develop his game at the junior level and look forward to seeing him bring that skill and experience to the program.” – D3 Head Coach Michael Hernbrott
