ISU Hockey Welcomes Blake Becker!

Illinois State University Hockey is proud to announce the commitment of forward Blake Becker to the Redbird program.

A Rockton, Illinois native, Becker brings size, physicality, and a strong work ethic to Illinois State as he continues his academic and athletic career. The opportunity to stay close to home and compete for a strong program made ISU the right fit. “I wanted to play for Illinois State because the team is good and it’s close to home for me,” Becker said. Becker plans to major in Business.

Prior to Illinois State, Becker played junior hockey with the Florida Eels of the USPHL Premier. Standing at 6-foot-5 and shooting right, Becker uses his size effectively as a power forward, creating offense while playing a strong two-way game.

Becker credits longtime coach David Wandell as a major influence on his development. “My youth coach David Wandell trained me my whole life and led my team to a state championship,” Becker said.

He also recognizes the support system that has helped him along the way. “Both of my parents, my grandma, and my former coach David Wandell have all supported me,” he said. Becker has one sister, Bailey, and a twin brother, Brandon, and enjoys his mom’s homemade manicotti.

Becker has delivered in big moments throughout his career, including scoring an overtime game- winning goal to send his team to a state championship, as well as recording a hat trick in a championship game.

His favorite hockey memory comes from his junior career. “Winning the Florida Cup my first year with the Eels,” Becker said.

Becker describes himself with a fast and powerful edge. “I’d be a cheetah because they’re my favorite animal,” he said.

As he looks ahead to his time at Illinois State, Becker is excited to compete and build relationships with his teammates. “I look forward to meeting the guys and winning,” he said.

With size, physicality, and a proven ability to perform in big moments, Becker is poised to make an immediate impact for the Redbirds.
